Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 27, 2026
Selah Journal (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
- Account Information: When you create an account via email, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google, we collect your email address and authentication credentials through Supabase. Apple and Google may also provide your name, which we use only to pre-fill your display name.
- Profile Information: Your display name, username, bio, and optional profile picture.
- Journal Entries: Your written reflections, matched scriptures, prayers, notes, and saved verses. Journal text is encrypted on your device before it is stored in our database.
- Social Features: Friend connections, friend requests, shared verses, and related notifications, if you choose to use those features.
- Usage Counters: Feature-use counts (for example, prompt refreshes or Premium scripture matches) are stored on your device to enforce plan limits.
- Notification Token: If you enable notifications, we store a device push token so we can deliver alerts such as friend activity. It identifies your device, not you personally, and is deleted when you disable notifications or delete your account.
- Purchase Information: Subscription status is managed by Apple or Google Play through RevenueCat. We receive entitlement status (whether Premium is active), not your payment card details.
- To provide and maintain the Selah Journal service
- To save and sync your journal entries, saved verses, and profile data across devices
- To match your reflections with Scripture: free accounts use on-device keyword and theme matching; Premium accounts may send journal text to our AI matcher to select a verse and explain why (up to 60 matches per month)
- To moderate content for crisis language, profanity, and hate speech
- To generate Weekly Selah summaries from anonymized metadata (theme, verse reference, intro — not your raw journal text)
- To enable optional social features such as friend connections and sharing verses
- To send notifications you enable (daily prompts, friend activity, Weekly Selah)
- To manage Premium access through RevenueCat
Social features are optional and off by default until you use them. If you enable them:
- Your display name, username, and profile picture may be visible to other users so friends can find you
- Friend requests and shared verses are visible to the recipient
- Your journal entries are never shared with other users
You control your profile visibility and may remove friend connections at any time.
Data Storage & Security
Account and journal data are stored using Supabase (hosted PostgreSQL). Journal entries are encrypted on your device before upload and are encrypted in transit and at rest. Your journal is private and accessible only to you. Data is retained until you delete your account or request deletion.
Third-Party Services
- Supabase: Authentication, database, and Edge Functions
- Apple Sign-In: Optional account creation
- Google Sign-In: Optional account creation
- OpenAI: Premium verse matching, content moderation, and Weekly Selah generation
- RevenueCat: In-app subscription status
- Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging: Delivery of notifications you enable
These services have their own privacy policies governing information they process on our behalf. We do not sell your personal information.
AI Processing
If you use Premium verse matching, moderation, or Weekly Selah, relevant text or metadata may be processed by OpenAI acting as a service provider. Bible verse text comes from our Scripture database, not from AI generation. We do not use your journal entries to train publicly available AI models. You may choose not to use AI features by not submitting content for processing.
